Aims:

The aim of this course is to provide professionals in the IT industry with an advanced course of study in Networking and System Administration that is current, relevant and integrates industry certification in these fields.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, graduates will possess:

• Advanced skills in the design, implementation and management of networks;
• Higher order system administration knowledge and skills;
• Certification as a Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) – Cisco’s industry certification for network professionals who install, configure, and troubleshoot local and wide area networks for enterprise organizations with networks from 100 to more than 500 nodes;
• Certification as a VMWare Certified Professional (elective subject)
• Advanced skills in identifying network security risk profiles, defining network security policies and maintaining secure global networks;
• Problem-solving skills and methodologies when troubleshooting and documenting global internetworking problems;
• The ability to analyse complex client business and technical requirements and select appropriate inter-network technologies and topologies, and
• Skills in the development of solutions that meet customer business objectives for functionality, performance, and cost.

Course Structure:

The Course consists of 12 subjects with a total value of 96 points. For students that do not qualify for any credit, the recommended duration to complete the Masters is 2 years. There are 3 trimesters per year and we recommend a commitment of 2 subjects per trimester.

Graduate Certificate in Networking and Systems Administration:

The Master of Networking and Systems Administration is an articulated course that incorporates the Graduate Certificate in Networking and Systems Administration. The certificate can be stand alone or, upon successful completion, students may proceed (with full credit) into the Master of Networking and Systems Administration. To graduate with the Graduate Certificate, students must satisfactorily complete 4 subjects, which include two industry certification subjects.

Subjects only are only available for credit and are not available for study via Distance education with Charles Sturt University. Credit for these subjects designated as credit will be awarded on proof that the students have passed the corresponding industry certification exam.

Entry Requirements for the Masters Degree

Applicants will generally be expected to have an undergraduate (Bachelor) degree in any discipline and at least two years experience in the IT industry. Preference will be given to these applicants.

Applicants without an undergraduate degree will be considered for admission on the basis of their industry experience and other qualifications they have obtained.
